Sydney Sweeney Stuns in Barely-There Silver Dress
Legend has it it was weaved by magical elves
Sydney Sweeney was among five women honored at Variety’s 2025 Power of Women event in Los Angeles on October 29. The actress attended the event, which was hosted by Iliza Shlesinger, as part of a slate of female honorees, and took that platform to speak about female empowerment and her upcoming project.
Sweeney arrived in a silver t-shirt gown by Christian Cowan. The gown, created in collaboration with designer Elias Matso, features a twisted waist silhouette and a lace-up corset at the back. The material is crystal embellished mesh, which gave the dress a shimmering, sheer look. The garment closed out Cowan’s Spring/Summer 2026 finale just last month. In keeping with the sheer nature of the dress, Sweeney opted not to wear a bra under the gown.

For the styling, Sweeney worked with her longtime friend and celebrity stylist Molly Dickson. She took the stage after an introduction by fellow actor Sharon Stone to deliver a speech about her current project, Christy. The film is a biographical drama about former pro boxer’s Christy Martin, who attended the event. Sweeney described portraying Martin as the most inspiring and meaningful experiences of her life. The story follows Martin and her struggle with domestic violence by her husband and her efforts to redefine what it means to be a female athlete who is reclaiming her sexual identity. Sweeney spoke about the challenge Martin faced when people told her she did not belong, underscoring a message of perseverance and resilience.
Christy is scheduled for release on November 7. The film has drawn attention for its focus on Martin’s journey and the broader discussion about women in sports and the obstacles they face in their careers and identities. Sweeney’s remarks aligned with the event’s emphasis on empowerment and recognition of women who have broken barriers in their respective fields.

The 2025 Power of Women event drew other notable attendees, including Kate Hudson, Wanda Sykes, Nicole Scherzinger and Jamie Lee Curtis. The gathering highlighted the ongoing efforts to celebrate women making significant contributions to film, television, and broader culture, while also spotlighting projects that address important social issues.
Sweeney’s appearance alongside these other honorees underscores her rising profile in Hollywood and her commitment to roles that explore resilience and empowerment. With Christy poised for a fall release and her ongoing work in film and television, Sweeney remains a prominent voice in contemporary entertainment, using her platform to shine a light on stories of endurance, courage, and the fight for recognition against stereotypes.
